A FOREST ASH / FRAXINUS EXCELSIOR King of trees to the Vikings with its roots in hell and its branches reaching to the heavens (120'+), the solo Ash tree will rarely blow over. Last to come into leaf and first to fall with dappled shade, Ash woodland supports a rich ground flora. An awkward tree to climb, Ash will tolerate pruning well and has been successfully pollarded and coppiced for centuries. Its amazing speed of growth causes its timber to be tough and flexible, sawing and seasoning well when winter felled. It is used in vehicle construction, tool handles and sports equipment.
